Dear Aspiring Lawyer,
Congratulations on attending the 13th Annual National HBCU Pre-Law Summit & Law Expo! We were so glad to have you with us, and now we have something special for you: the Remote Law School Application Materials Review.
Please note: The Remote Law School Application Materials Review is available only to registrants who attended the Summit in person. You must have attended in person to receive access to this service.
This is your opportunity to receive detailed, confidential written feedback on your actual application documents from our dedicated volunteer reviewers, including attorneys and experienced admissions readers. Many of our reviewers are first-generation lawyers themselves, and they volunteer their time because they believe in you and want to see you succeed.
How to submit your materials:
1. Visit the Volunteer Service Hub: https://hbcuprelawsummitvolunteerservicehub.app
2. Under Student Services, select "Submit materials" under Written Feedback.
3. Tell us a little about yourself, your goals, and the documents you are submitting.
4. Upload up to 6 documents. You may include your law school résumé, personal statement, statement of purpose, perspective or adversity statement, addenda, optional essays, and "Why this law school?" essays (PDF, Word, RTF, or text files).
5. Review and sign the Participant Disclaimer, then submit.
GOOD NEWS: We have extended the deadline! Please upload your materials by TOMORROW, Monday, October 5, 2026.
Once your materials are assigned to a reviewer, you will receive thoughtful written feedback within 3 weeks. Your reviewer will highlight your strengths, help you strengthen areas that need work, and offer guidance to help your application shine, all while honoring your authentic voice.
There is no cost for this service. It is our gift to you for investing in yourself and showing up for your future. Spots and reviewer capacity are limited, so don't wait. Submit early and give your reviewer plenty of time to give you their very best.

From early morning until tonight's ceremony, every hour has been designed with one purpose: to move you closer to law school and to the legal career you are working toward.

6:30 PM – 8:30 PM | The National HBCU Pre-Law Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Awards Presentation and Aspiring Lawyers Pinning Ceremony
This is the moment that ties the entire weekend together. We will honor those who have opened doors for us, and then we will pin YOU — formally recognizing your commitment to becoming a lawyer. You do not want to miss being in that room. The ceremony will be held in the NCCU Student Center Event Hall and concludes promptly at 8:30 PM.

A FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Registration/Check-In is open from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM at the NCCU Student Center.
- A complimentary shuttle runs between the designated parking lot and the Student Center all day.
- Lunch: fast food options are available on-site (pay on your own).
- Sign up early for the One-on-One Advising Sessions and the Small Group Conversations with Attorneys. These fill up.
- Everyone must be out of the NCCU Student Center by 9:00 PM sharp.
- Bring business cards or have your LinkedIn ready, and bring a notebook. The contacts and insights you gather today will serve you for years.

You can read about law school admissions online. You cannot get online what you will get in this building today: face-to-face access to admissions professionals, attorneys, judges, law students, and hundreds of peers who share your dream. GOOD NEWS: THE CAMPBELL AND NCCU WAITLISTS HAVE BEEN RELEASED
Everyone who signed up for the Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law tour and the North Carolina Central University School of Law tour, including everyone who was on a waitlist, is now confirmed and welcome to attend. If your name appears on either list below, you are in.
The Wake County Courthouse visit remains open to any registered Summit participant who is interested in attending. No sign-up is required.
The University of North Carolina School of Law and Duke University School of Law tours remain limited to the selected students listed below. If one of them is your dream school, please read the special note just below the list.
SPECIAL NOTE: IF DUKE OR UNC IS YOUR DREAM SCHOOL
Because we have under 30 people on each of these lists, there may be room for a few more:
Duke Law: If you are passionate about Duke Law, you can try to go anyway and see if they have room to accommodate you.
UNC Law: UNC Law can take up to 10 additional people. If UNC is your top school, it may be worth the risk to go and see if they can accommodate you.

During this interactive session, seven experienced law school admissions professionals will review seven fictional applicant files and decide whether each applicant should be admitted, waitlisted, or denied. Follow along, form your own judgment, and record the evidence supporting your decision before the committee announces its final outcome.
Please read the entire record for each applicant and be prepared to identify the strongest evidence of readiness, the concern that is hardest to overcome, and one change that would most improve the application. All applicants, institutions, employers, recommenders, and circumstances in the packet are fictional and provided solely for educational discussion.
We encourage you to download the exercise in advance and bring it with you, either electronically or in print.

**Interested in touring the University of North Carolina School of Law or Duke University School of Law? Please read this update carefully—space at each school is now limited to 30 attendees.**
Both schools recently informed us of these limits. This is the first time we have been given attendance caps for these tours, and we are adjusting our process to ensure that no one arrives expecting to participate and is turned away.
We want these limited spaces to go to students who are truly interested in visiting these schools and firmly committed to attending if selected.
**How to request a spot**
Please write **one brief paragraph explaining why you want to participate in the specific school’s tour and how the visit would support your law school goals.** Include a clear commitment that, if selected, you will attend unless an emergency or genuinely unforeseen circumstance prevents you from doing so.
On the same page, include:

* Your best email address
* Your cell phone number
* The school you currently attend or graduated from
* The law school tour you are requesting: UNC or Duke
Your contact information will be shared with the law school to coordinate your visit.

**How selection will work**
For **each school**, we will select the **first 30 qualifying submissions received by the deadline** that provide a thoughtful reason for participating and a firm commitment to attend. Please submit promptly and request a space only if you are confident you can be there.
Selected students will be **notified by email by 10:00 PM Eastern Time tomorrow, Monday, September 21.** Please check your inbox and spam folder. **You must receive a selection confirmation before attending either the UNC or Duke tour.**
If you are selected and an unexpected circumstance prevents you from attending, please notify us immediately so we can offer your space to another student.
**What about the other tours?**
* **Campbell University School of Law:** Campbell is willing to accommodate as many participants as possible, up to its capacity of **60 attendees**.
* **North Carolina Central University School of Law:** NCCU has **no attendance cap** and is willing to welcome every student interested in touring its law school.
* **Wake County Courthouse tours:** We have **not been informed of an attendance cap**.
**A note about the Duke tour**
Duke University School of Law is planning an extended session for its tour. We are coordinating with Duke’s BLSA to explore the possibility of livestreaming or recording the session so that additional registrants may participate. Further details will be shared as they become available.
**Additional notes about the tours**
* Additional information regarding the tours will be provided in an upcoming message.
* **Transportation to and from the tour sites is not provided.** Registrants are welcome to arrange shared rideshares, which is also an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow attendees.

Led and facilitated by law student pre-law advisors, this is a quick, face-to-face conversation about preparing for law school and succeeding once you're there. You must sign up for a time block on the page above:
Friday, September 25, 2026 - 9:45 to 10:45 AM (before the Opening Ceremony)
Saturday, September 26, 2026 - 1:30 to 2:30 PM (during the lunch break)
Students are not pre-assigned to a specific advisor. Your sign-up reserves your place in the headcount, and you're matched on site as advisors become available. The clinic is first-come, first-served; if the line is long, students who signed up get priority. Come with 1 to 2 pressing questions and something to take notes on.
2. Remote Law School Application Materials Review (written feedback)
Upload your resume, personal statement, diversity/perspective statement, addenda, or optional essays on the same page. A volunteer reviewer returns confidential written feedback. Having knowledgeable people review application materials usually costs hundreds of dollars, so we are happy to provide this service so you can get credible feedback and not have to do this alone. We encourage you to take advantage of this golden opportunity. Some reviewers may also invite you to a brief Zoom session to discuss your materials with you. Assignments begin Monday, September 28, 2026, after the Summit concludes, and reviewers have up to three weeks from assignment to return feedback. Your files are stored privately and permanently deleted once the review is complete.
Career questions: You will have an opportunity to ask career questions to attorneys during the Friday evening Legal Career Advisement Small Group Discussions on Friday, September 25, from 7:45 PM to 8:45 PM EST. (Career questions at the clinic itself should be limited to job seeking while in law school or law school summer work experiences.)

If you have already signed up for an application materials review, please find your reviewer assignment below. Additional information is available in the Volunteer Service Hub/Portal:

If you still need your application materials reviewed, please email info@hbcuprelawsummit.org with MATERIALS REVIEW in the subject line. Our team will submit your information and match you with a law student or attorney who can review your materials.
As previously announced, this service is available only to those who attended the Summit in person.
Please allow approximately three weeks from the date your reviewer assignment is made to receive written feedback. You may also request verbal feedback, if needed.

Saturday from 6:30–8:30 p.m., we will honor legal trailblazers in the Hall of Fame. Participating aspiring lawyers will recite the Aspiring Lawyers Success Pledge and receive the Summit eagle pin from a licensed attorney. A Special HBCU Film Night
Friday evening at The Varsity Theatre in Chapel Hill: Becoming Black Lawyers, Mr. Advocate and a special excerpt from Bar Daddy, plus a conversation with attorney-filmmakers Evangeline M. Mitchell [Prairie View A&M University] and Stacie McClam [Howard University]. Chapel Hill is approximately a 20-minute drive from Durham. Hi Future HBCU Pre-Law Summit Attendees,
You can now sign up for two great opportunities through the Volunteer Service Hub:
One-on-One Pre-Law Advisement Clinic — Get live, 15-minute guidance from a knowledgeable law student or attorney who is serving in a pre-law advisor role during the Summit.
Remote Application Materials Review — Have your personal statement, resume, addendum, or perspective/adversity statement reviewed after the event.
Important: Remote application materials review assignments are made after the Summit, once we confirm you attended in person. We want to reward the students who show up and engage with us at the event, so attendance is required to receive a remote reviewer.
Slots for the in-person clinic are limited, so reserve yours now. Upload your materials early, and we will begin matching reviewers with attendees once the Summit concludes.
