1. What we collect
When you register or create an account, we collect information you give us — name, email, school, classification, city/state, and any optional profile details (LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.). We also collect operational data needed to run the Summit, such as session sign-ups, RSVPs, tour selections, roommate/rideshare posts you choose to publish, and communications you send us.
2. How we use it
We use your information to confirm your registration, provide access to Summit sessions and tours, send program updates and logistics, respond to your questions, keep the event safe, and improve our programming. We do not sell your personal information.
3. Sharing with law schools and sponsors — opt-in only
The Summit's law-school partners and corporate/sponsor partners frequently ask us for a list of pre-law attendees so they can send you scholarship offers, application fee waivers, event invitations, recruiting information, and internship or job opportunities. We will share your name and email address with participating law schools and/or sponsors ONLY if you explicitly opt in below. You can opt in to law schools, sponsors, both, or neither — and you may change your choice at any time by returning to this page. If you opt out, your name and email will not be included in the lists we provide to law schools or sponsors.
4. What we never share without your consent
Regardless of your opt-in choices, we never share your phone number, home address, date of birth, government ID, payment details, private messages, or any other sensitive information with law schools or sponsors. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the safety of attendees, or to trusted service providers who help us operate the Summit (such as email delivery, hosting, and payment processing) under confidentiality obligations.
5. The Attendee Directory (separate opt-out)
If you appear in the Summit's in-app Attendee Directory, only your name, city, state, school, classification, and any social links you added are visible — and only to other signed-in attendees. Your email address is never displayed in the Directory. You can remove yourself from the Directory at any time from your profile or the Directory opt-out page.
6. Storage, retention & security
Your data is stored on secure, access-controlled systems operated by our hosting and database providers. We keep registrant data for as long as needed to run the Summit and for a reasonable period afterward for reporting, alumni outreach, and future Summit planning. You may request deletion of your account and personal data by emailing info@hbcuprelawsummit.org.
7. Your choices & rights
You may update your profile, change your data-sharing choices, unsubscribe from non-essential emails, opt out of the Attendee Directory, or request a copy or deletion of your data at any time. To exercise any of these rights, use the controls in your account or email info@hbcuprelawsummit.org.
